We asked you, our awesome Bolt Action community, what you wanted to know about Armies of the United States: Third Edition, and you answered! So far we’ve looked at national special rules, and some of the new units joining the roster. Now for something completely different – some of the weird and wonderful units in the book, that are a bit more ‘out there’!
M15 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage (MGMC)
We’ll start with a seriously scary piece of anti-aircraft artillery – the M15 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage (MGMC). Featuring a heavy autocannon and a pair of .50cal heavy machine guns in the back of a half-track, this ‘meatchopper’ can certainly live up to its sobriquet.
Putting out some serious firepower, the M15 can absolutely shred infantry and light vehicles caught in its sights, as well as driving off enemy Air Strikes with ease. Perfect for putting on Ambush to block off areas of the boards, and for punishing incautious opponents, the M15 is a strange beast – but a dangerous one! Capable of delivering a devastating direct-fire barrage wherever it’s needed on the battlefield, it’s also not the only many-gunned half-track in the book – check out its cousin, the M16 MGMC! US players won’t have to wait long to get their hands on their very own M15 – the new kit is due out very soon!
USMC War Dogs
From a meatchopper to a meat chomper, next up are the USMC War Dogs! Veteran Bolt Action players will remember these courageous canines from Second Edition supplements, and now they’re joining the Armies of the United States proper.
Able to sniff out Hidden units (literally) from 24″ away, and with Stubborn and Tough Fighters as befits Marines (and dogs!) they’re a surprisingly tasty little squad if you take them at maximum size with submachine guns. The models are packed with character, and also present a great opportunity to kitbash your own handlers.
LVT(A)-1 ‘Amtank’
For our final weird and wonderful unit, we’re staying with the Pacific theme, with the LVT(A)-1 ‘Amtank’. This armoured beast combines amphibious capability with the firepower of a light anti-tank gun and multiple machine guns, perfect for supporting your troops as they storm ashore. It’s also an absolute behemoth of a model, making it a fantastic centrepiece for any force and a great opportunity to practice weathering on its armour plates.
On the table, it’s also a great low points cost option for anti-armour and anti-infantry work lobbing shots around as it trundles across the board, and its sheer bulk can be used to screen your infantry from enemy fire!
