Spitfire V vs. Macchi C.202 is out this month, and it’s a title that I, as a hopeless aviation fan-boy, have been looking forward to for a while!

I’ve always been captivated by the air battles over Malta in World War II – they were fierce, dramatic and yet contained to a relatively small geographic area.

In this book the best Italian and British fighters of the campaign are evaluated on their head-to-head combat performance in the wild dogfights over this strategically vital island in 1942.

The Spitfire V, as with most of the Spitfire variants, is a famously elegant plane. The Macchi C.202 Folgore might be less illustrious than the Spit, but it was a good-looking fighter with great performance albeit slightly undergunned.

Anyway, I’ll stop waxing on. For an authentic view of the Folgore in action, check this out!
