The talk of our small office has been the new HBO miniseries, "The Pacific," produced by the award-winning team that brought us Band of Brothers: Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. The two make an impressive duo, and "The Pacific" promises not to disappoint. The 10-part series will air on Sunday, March 14th, and slowly but surely, more information on the series is becoming available.
For those of you who just can't wait for a few sneak peeks: The HBO website has three trailers up, not to be missed, as well as a slideshow of screen shots from the episodes. One dedicated fan has put together the ultimate Pacific War fansite - pretty impressive considering the series has such a fan base even before airing.
Osprey is releasing two major books on the Pacific War campaigns:
The Pacific War is a new edition of The Pacific War Companion, maintaining all of the photographs and full-color images found in the original hardcover edition.
War in the Pacific is a 64-page full-color book with 20 reproductions of key documents, including FDR's handwritten "Day of Infamy" speech and a copy of Yank! Magazine from 1944. The foreword is written by Dale Dye, the Senior Military Advisor on HBO's set. (Please note that due to rights and permissions limitations, this book will only be available to our US customers.)
For more information on the various campaigns of the PTO, you can always check out our series titles, and our site on Pearl Harbor gives a detailed history of the attack on Pearl Harbor along with extensive recommendations for further reading.
Now I'm off to order HBO for March and April...
