Justinian’s Army AD 527–65
The Byzantine Army and its allies mounted multiple campaigns during the tumultuous and bloody reign of the Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian I, as he sought to reconquer vast swathes of formerly imperial territory. The various troop types taking part in this mighty effort to restore the Empire are described and illustrated in this colourful study.

Dutch Armies of William III, 1672–1714
William, Prince of Orange, was a major player in Dutch politics and also king of England, Scotland and Ireland from 1688 until his death in 1702. Fully illustrated, this book describes and illustrates the Dutch armed forces that played key roles during the War of the Three Kingdoms (1688–91), the Nine Years’ War (1688–97) and the War of the Spanish Succession (1701–15).

The Russian Conquest of the Caucasus 1817–64
During the 19th century the Tsar’s generals strove to conquer the region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea under Romanov rule. This effort brought Russian troops into conflict not only with the region’s indigenous populations, but also the Ottoman Empire and Qajar Iran. The combatants who fought in this long series of campaigns are brought to life in this fully illustrated volume.

The US Army 1815–60
The decades between the War of 1812 and the American Civil War saw wide-ranging changes in the structure, weaponry and uniforms of the burgeoning US Army, faced with multiple challenges across a vast frontier. The absorbing account describes and illustrates the evolving appearance of the soldiers of the US Army, covering both regulation dress and the attire worn on campaign.

US Volunteer Units in Foreign Armies 1914–45
During 1914–45, Americans served in a voluntary capacity with a wide variety of armed forces across the world. While some fought on land, others, such as the Lafayette Escadrille of World War I and the Yankee Squadron of the Spanish Civil War, flew combat missions. The colourful histories and distinctive appearance of these volunteers are described and illustrated in this lively study.
