Swedish Armies 1654–1721

The Swedish Crown fielded one of Europe’s most formidable armies in the 75 years after the accession of King Carl X Gustav in 1654. Sweden’s soldiers faced those of Denmark, Brandenburg, Poland, Saxony, Russia and others in a series of bitter conflicts that saw Sweden’s military fortunes ebb and flow before culminating in disaster for King Charles XII in the Great Northern War (1700–21).

French Forces in North America 1754–63

When the long rivalry between the British and their French rivals in North America escalated into outright warfare in 1754, the French Crown fielded a variety of military forces to defend New France. Fully illustrated, this study describes and illustrates the regular and irregular troops of the French Army and Navy engaged in the fateful struggle for North America.

The US Army in the Korean War

The US Army, much reduced in numbers since 1945, faced a daunting challenge in the wake of the North Korean invasion of South Korea in 1950. More than three years of bitter back-and-forth fighting in a variety of harsh combat environments saw the US Army deploy new technologies and tactics alongside the equipment and doctrine honed in World War II.

The US Navy since 1945

At the end of World War II the United States Navy was the world’s most powerful navy, a distinction it continues to hold. In the ensuring 75 years the US Navy has faced a variety of operational challenges, from the central role it played in the Cold War to combat operations in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and elsewhere. The 21st century has brought new challenges, most notably the War on Terror. Fully illustrated, this study investigates the appearance and personal equipment of the US Navy’s men and women in more than seven decades of maritime operations.

US Air Force Pararescue

Since World War II, the US Air Force has deployed specialists tasked with the recovery and medical treatment of personnel involved in humanitarian and military operations. The Parajumpers have seen service in a variety of environments across the globe, from the mountains of Korea to the deserts of Iraq. This study explores the organization, appearance and equipment of these highly trained specialists.
