Campaign 309: Shanghai and Nanjing 1937 by Benjamin Lai

Occupation of Nanjing

This image from Shanghai and Nanjing 1937 depicts a scene from John Rabe’s diary. Rabe, a member of the Nazi Party, stayed behind during the Nanjing Occupation to help prevent the atrocities of the Japanese army: ‘6:00 PM. Six Japanese climbed over my garden wall and attempted to open the gates from the inside. When I arrived and shone my flashlight in the face of one of the bandits, he reached for his pistol but dropped it quickly enough when I yelled at him and held my swastika armband under his nose.’

That’s all the artwork for now, but if you want to see more from these titles, they are now available to pre-order by clicking here. Let us know in the comments which is your favourite piece of artwork, and which title you’ll be ordering this June!
