Widely known as V-E Day or V Day, the 8th May marks the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, the day on which Hitler's successor, Karl Dönitz proffered the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany's armed forces. The formal acceptance of this surrender by Allied Forces finally brought World War II to an end in Europe.
