MARKETING DESIGNER, OXFORD (Non-Consumer Adult Special Interest Division)

 

The opportunity

Osprey Publishing is looking for an innovative and creative designer to produce high quality and visually engaging content for a range of imprints and products, including Osprey Games, Bloomsbury Shire and Bloomsbury Bespoke.  The role will be based in our Oxford office.

The role

  • Design and produce both print and digital communications including (but not limited to): catalogues and flyers, social media and website content, promotional videos, trade and consumer newsletters, print and online advertisements, event materials (posters, fliers and showcards), point of sale displays, blads and press releases.
  • Work from briefs from the Sales and Marketing team, with the assistance of in-house Editorial and Design departments, to create work to the highest standard, effectively communicating the desired message and maintaining the brand identity of the relevant imprint or product.
  • Commission and supervise printers and suppliers to ensure the production of high quality, accurate and on-schedule artwork for all projects as required.

Skills, knowledge, experience

  • Graphic Design skills (a passion and understanding for illustration, typography, layouts, colours and processes)
  • Creativity and the ability to visualise well
  • An understanding of print production standards and constraints (to ensure files supplied are compliant with any technical requirements)          
  • The ability to work quickly and to a very high standard
  • The ability to interpret a design brief
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Project Management
  • IT skills (knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Word is essential, and Excel desirable)
  • Basic knowledge of XML-first workflows

 The following skills/experiences/interests would be an advantage but are not essential: 

  • Video editing skills
  • Previous work within a marketing department
  • An interest in military history and/or tabletop gaming

GAMES ASSISTANT (Oxford)

 

The opportunity

Osprey Games is looking for a Games Assistant to join the team at our offices in Oxford. The successful candidate will work closely with our games developers and marketing staff to develop, produce, and promote our growing range of tabletop wargames. This is a great opportunity to join the team behind such wargames as Frostgrave, Bolt Action, Field of Glory, and the Osprey Wargames series (Lion Rampant, In Her Majesty’s Name, Rogue Stars etc.), and make a career in the world of games!
 

The role

  • Editorial support for Osprey Games, including editing manuscripts, proofreading, checking eBooks etc.
  • Project management support for wargaming titles.
  • General administrative support for Osprey Games.
  • Database management.
  • Uploading and maintaining titles on our content management system (CMS).
  • Representing Osprey Games at conventions and shows.
     

Skills, knowledge, experience

  • Strong editorial skills and a high level of written and spoken English.
  • Great organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues, collaborators, customers and the public.
  • Time management and ability to prioritise workload.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Strong eye for detail.

GAMES MARKETING EXECUTIVE (Oxford)

 

The opportunity

Osprey Games is looking for a Games Marketing Executive to join the Marketing team at our offices in Oxford. The successful candidate will work closely with our games developers and marketing staff to promote our growing range of tabletop games, implementing all aspects of our marketing plans, including direct mail and email marketing, print and offline advertising, publicity and sales materials. This is a great opportunity to join the team behind such wargames as Frostgrave, Bolt Action, and the Osprey Wargames series (Lion Rampant, In Her Majesty’s Name, Rogue Stars etc.), and board games including Odin’s Ravens, Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space Ultimate Edition and Escape from Colditz.
 

The role 

  • Copywriting and implementing print and digital marketing campaigns through email, direct mail, social media and the Osprey website.
  • Organising and attending conventions and shows in the UK and abroad.
  • Briefing and project managing trade and consumer catalogues and other sales tools including, but not limited to sales sheets, point of sale displays and blads.
  • Updating, moderating and monitoring Osprey Games’ social media accounts, blog and forum.
  • Managing relationships with print and online reviewers to ensure widespread coverage on blogs, YouTube channels and forums, and in magazines, newsletters and the national press.
  • Negotiating and reserving consumer and trade advertising in print and online.
  • Providing in-house customer support for website, phone and mail enquiries (in conjunction with a third party customer service provider).

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT (3 month contract - Oxford)

Osprey Publishing's main focus is on producing high quality content for military history enthusiasts, including titles on flame-throwing tanks, Samurai uniforms and battle plans with everything in between. The Osprey Adventures branch blurs the lines between fact and fiction, taking in werewolves, Odin, and the lost city of Atlantis along the way.  Osprey Games produces high-quality wargames and boxed games on topics from World War II to competitive Christmas gift-giving. Osprey’s sister company, Shire Publications, deals with heritage topics from knitting and garden gnomes to Aston Martins and Harley Davidsons.   We are part of Bloomsbury Publishing Plc and Osprey's already international reach is expanding to new markets and territories.

The Osprey production department is looking for an enthusiastic Publishing BA or MA graduate to help provide everyday support to our busy team. The role will include a variety of tasks including image-checking, layout of cover visuals, updating databases, checking ebooks, making minor layout corrections, and sourcing material from our archive.

Having a good eye for detail is essential, as are excellent communication and organisation skills. Confidence with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is also vital and a strong interest in design is preferred. The candidate should be able to work independently and show initiative, whilst still part of a team dedicated to producing high quality books and games.

HEAD OF PRODUCTION, Adult (Osprey) Division, Group Production Department, (Maternity cover, c. 12 months)

 

The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced market-aware individual to head the Production function for our Osprey list, which forms part of Bloomsbury’s Adult Non-Consumer publishing division.  Osprey publishes across a range of product types including books and games, predominantly for military history and games enthusiasts.

 

The role

Main accountabilities include the delivery of each fiscal year’s front and back lists, in print and digital formats, to schedule, budget and agreed quality standards.  One of a team of divisional heads of Production, you will also play a vital role in implementing Group Production strategy.

 

Skills, knowledge, experience

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Proven experience in a management role (minimum of five years), including team leadership
  • Proven detailed knowledge of current production-editorial workflows, with an awareness of the specific needs of integrated colour publishing , including its design aspects
  • Track record for delivering busy lists
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others
  • IT skills; including familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Knowledge of XML-based workflows
  • Knowledge of Biblio3 (desirable but not essential)
  • Knowledge of the games manufacturing process (highly desirable but not essential)
