There are Osprey books in the 'Weapon' series about medieval handgonnes, flintlocks, percussion riles, and a whole host of mettalic-cartridge guns. But there's a big gap there concerning early-modern matchlock muskets. In general there aren't many dedicated books (in English at least) about matchlock firearms, and I'd love to see Osprey do one with their customary illustrations.

I think the subject could even benefit from two Osprey books, one focusing on Western guns and the other on Asian guns. Or perhaps focus separate books on specific patterns, for example a book on Japanese "tanegashima" matchlocks, a book on European arquebuses, etc.

Hello again,

The editor of the series has reccommended Weapons of the Samurai’ as it covers Japanese matchlock firearms.

Best wishes,

Molly
