Posted by: tarawa90 Hi guys, I'm not really into the whole Wargaming thing, but I am interested in getting a few miniatures. What are the companies with the best selection?

Though the closest thing to a Wargame I’ve played is Castle Risk, I do have several figures from Italery. However, this website seems to be helpful for collectors.

That would depend on what scale and period you are interested in. As I prefer 28mm scale 19th century stuff I would recommend Empress Miniatures and Perry Miniatures. These are both British firms, but I think they have American stockists. If you visit their on-line sites there is plenty to tempt you.

I have never played any Wargame, but am an avid Miniature Collector! However, I have mainly Ships, Tanks, Aircraft of diffrent scales! in the US, I'd suggest you check the GHQ-Models Web Page....

Perry's miniatures are very good and reasonably priced for a good sized box set of war gaming miniatures. Obviously there is the Warlord miniatures associated with Osprey's Bolt Action but ive not painted any personally. If you are looking for larger scale diorama type figures then I could ask my father in law as I know he's into that sort of figure painting. He's currently working on WWI piece from a company called Tommys War.

Depends on which period you want to collect/play. Also which scale or size. And the material you prefer (metal, hard plastic, soft plastic) which is also relevant to price. There are also different styles of skulpting. Don´t worry it´s not as complicated as it sounds ;-) For 1:72 soft plastic the above mentioned plasticsoldiersreview is a wonderful ressouce. For everything else I recommend TMP which is an extensive forum. If you ask you will find many helpful persons there.

@ Nightbird: Castle Risk rules! I haven't really gotten into wargaming, but I imagine that if I did, I would take to it like the proverbial duck to water. That being said, I used to buy a lot of Britains figures (and some other makes as well). This w

Specifically I'm looking for War of 1812, Mexican War, and Byzantines. I know, not exactly the most popular of topics.

Hmmm, try a company called "Gripping Beast" fot Byzantine figures, I've done some of their Vikings, which are very nice. There is a company called IMEX who do figures for the Mexican war, but in plastic at 20mm scale, I've never seen any of their stuff, so I don't know how good it is. A company called "Wargames Foundry" used to do a good range of 1812 figures, but they seem to have stopped advertising them. It might be worth contacting them to see if they still have any in stock.

There's a nice little off licence that sells them near us, and they do Scotch, Brandy and Vodka.
