Two-handed swords seem to be something of a crowd-pleaser among medievalists and fantasy authors and illustrators (often achieving ridiculous proportions in the latter case). I think a Weapon title that covered these fearsome blades would be interesting as well as a popular seller. It could cover the development of these large weapons from the late medieval longswords and the different forms that emerged such as the zweihänder (aka: bidenhänder, aka schlachtschwert, etc.) and the Scottish claymore. When you have authors like Mike Loades who are very willing to go out and test these types of weapons themselves, it would make a very interesting read. Thoughts?

I couldn't agree more. It's definitely time to expand the scope of the Weapon series, as I'm pretty sure as of right now you can count on one hand the number of titles that aren't devoted to modern firearms. Mike Loades is of course very well qualified to write on the subject of pretty much any ancient or medieval weapon, given his extensive personal experience with so many of them. His Longbow book was very enjoyable, as is his non Osprey work Swords and Swordsmen. Anyway, I certainly hope we see many more ancient and medieval weapon titles coming soon. |

I think a weapon book covering hand-and-a-half and/or two handed swords would be both interesting and viable. you have a variety of source manuals available, such as the medieval feuchtbooks of talhoffer, fiore de'liberi and johannes lichtenauer, which would allow a useful section on training and use. it's something i'd like to pull together a proposal one, but i don't see myself having the time to do so any time soon |

This would be a very interesting book and if up to Ospreys usual standard, I would certainly buy it. |

Excellent idea murphac, I’d certainly buy such a title. Great idea mate! Osprey – please bear this one in mind!!! Its also nice to see a book proposal from somebody that has actually thought about it before posting, nice one. |

I'd certainly be interested in this; the Weapon series desperately needs something other than "US infantry weapons of WWII". |

I would love to buy a book that went into details on the two-handers and hand-and-a-half swords of Europe if Osprey published one. |

I think they should do a book on the bitch swords, they are older than my interest but I like them. |

A good idea and a good post too. I mean murphac’s. About the bitch sword…Well, I’ll google it and it doesn’t mean that I think Daz’ idea is a bad one... |

Really good idea. They're probably one of the most misunderstood and mythologized weapons of all time (cough, Conan, cough). I look forward to being informed. |
