Cushing and a small group of volunteers launched a surprise attack on the CSS Albemarle with a small boat and a spare torpedo. The Albemarle was sunk and Cushing the only survivor on the union side

Sounds like a good idea. There is a History Channel documentary about this raid that can be found in a Civil War DVD set.

I actually wrote a brief article about this for a freelance writing class. Would you include the actions of the Albemarle, too? I suppose they could count as raids. Cushing wasn't the only survivor--several of his men were captured.
