the Crow indians who lived in Montana had been enemies of the Sioux and Blackfeet.many of them served with Arikaras as scouts for the 7th calvary at Little Bighorn in 1876. yet sime of them would fight against the US 11 years later during the Crow war, it was fought at Crow Agency,Montana, very close to the Little Bighorn battlefield. the Crows and Blackfeet had been raiding each other for horses, and a group of Crows under chief Sword Bearer had left the reservation. a force of US soldiers came to track them down. there was a brief fight and 1 soldier and 8 Crows were killed. it was the only war between the Crows and US,the last Indian war fought in Montana, and one of the last to be fought at all.

|What happened in 1887 was an uprising. Mostly, the Crows provided scouts for the Army. That's the story that needs to be told IMHO.|
