On 13th. February James @ Osprey gave us a list of the low-quality pdf's that had been re-worked. At that time he said that work on the books that still needed up-dating was in progress.

As far as I can see there has been no further work done on this important attempt to maintain Osprey's good reputation. I own the following books that still need to be brought up to the correct standard:

Duel 81: Sea Harrier vs Mirage III, MAA 512: Armies of the Italian Wars of Unification and Warrior 157: French Foreign Legionnaire 1890 - 1914.

Please could we at least have a progress report?

Oh, and what has happened to April's book vote?

Hi Painty,

Apologies for the delay in getting this issue fixed. All the titles in the affected span should be updated this week, and I’ll be sure to keep you updated

The new book vote is up right now, and as you may have seen, it features the Men-at-Arms series.

Best,
James@Osprey

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry to say that the upload of the new, larger files has taken longer than expected. I will update you all as soon as they are ready to re-download.

I'd just like to thank the James and the guys at Osprey for all the wonderful work you do! I've purchased literally scores of your titles over the years, recently mostly PDF versions. The WPN series is by far my favorite. Unlike some, I don't buy the issues for the plates or the artwork (though they are nice as a reference for period uniforms). The Osprey books are like "Intro to" titles, or "Cliff Notes" for different topics in military history. I select titles that I want an introduction to, in order to see if I would like to engage in further reading on the topic.

I don't understand what is with the chronic whiners, as if they have nothing better to do with their time than come here and victim vomit all over the forum. I can understand some issues being a slight annyonance on the website (ie titles disappearing, reappearing, picture quality not being in super HD, things not happening on the minute of the hour as advertised), but it seems like there is a small clique of armchair publishers that seem personally wounded by the slightest mishap on Osprey's part.

Is it OCD? Anal retentive personalities? Entitled attitudes?

Seriously...Osprey isn't making a fortune in print (or even downloadable) media. It's not like they are selling vehicles that are being recalled, defective pacemakers, homes that were built on a flood plain, or performing botched surgeries.

Lighten up!

Chronic whiner here.

Sadly I am not as overpaid as the previous poster, who seems delighted to throw his money away on sub-standard products.

If he would care to delve into the forum records he will find that I have started many threads that praise Ospreys output, giving serious reviews instead of rather unpleasant personal attacks. However I do think it reasonable (and even beneficial) to critisize poor quality work.

Someone who knows Osprey less well than I do might assume the poster was a shill for the publisher. I await an apology for the unwarrented personal remarks, but doubt that the poster has the maturity or basic good manners to give one.

I can see both sides here. The blog used to be quite fast paced and the subjects came thick and fast. Now it is fairly pedestrian.  So any criticisms do tend to hang around a bit . I currently buy paper books rather than e books, however when there is a problem I do raise it. However I do email direct rather than put it on the blog. Having been on here quite a while it' fair to say painty is clearly a fan of the osprey books so shouldn't be labelled as anything but. I do also find some of the criticism of the website quite extreme. My main reason for being a member is the discount. Anything else is a bonus .

Good day PAUL W. Your points are well made and I take them. If my comments are ever a little over-stated it is because I am a truely avid fan of Osprey, so when I see them turn out sub-standard work I get worried nd may over-react at times. And of course no one likes to see insults on a public forum.

A shill is someone who presents themselves as a disinterested, neutral party, but is in fact an ally or agent of one side in an arguement. Traditionally the term comes from stage magicians, who would plant an accomplice in the audience, and always pick them to "help" when a trick was being permormed.

Cheers painty , I learn a lot from the osprey books and today  I learnt what a shill is. One of my hobbies is pub quizzes and that is just the sort of thing that could come up. If it does I'll buy you a pint, should out paths ever cross.

Hi everybody,

I'm very pleased to say that the final few PDFs in the affected span have now been updated to the new standard. Please accept my apologies for the delay in getting this last batch completed. As a reminder, to get the new files, you need to go into your e-library on our website and re-download the book.

Best wishes,

James@Osprey
