  Topic Description
Posted by: Hamilcar Hey guys, Just wondering what people thought of the Mithridatic Wars as an Essential Histories title. I feel the armies, campaigns and battles would benefit greatly from an osprey treatment (maps, illustrations, etc). With interesting generals (Sulla, Lucullus, Pompey, Fimbria, Murena, Mithridates, Tigranes and Archelaus) and epic battles (Chaeronea, Orchomenes, Tigranocerta- declared by Livy to be the greatest battle against the odds ever fought by Rome) it is hard to see why this would not be a great title. Despite being the story of one of Rome's most determined, most hydra-like enemies, it is an important war in the wider context of late Republican strife and ambitious rival generals.

I'm a big fan of Lucullus. Currently trying to write an essay on his command in the 3rd war.

Yes, other than the Ford novel on the King this has not had good coverage.
