Going back to january 2019 and 2020 osprey previewed relevant films due for release in each year. I just saw a trailer for the Tom Hanks film Greyhound and it is now due to be released on apple tv exclusively.

It should've been called Saving Battleship Greyhound because as well as the only one acting, Hanks saves the ship and the film.

The story is 1 dimensional and the love interest is appalling. I got the impression that if Hanks had been an aircraft carrier captain, then she'd have been all over him. As for his crew, well, I wouldn't even call them 1-dimenional, it would've been better with paper cut-outs and their lines being shouted off camera, Hanks could've saved the director in actors fees and you'd not have noticed.

I would give it a meh out of 10.

How does Greyhound compare to The Enemy Below? Better, worse, or the same?

Sad thing is that I was looking forwards to the film. I can't say how much I was disappointed. Hanks is a good actor and he basically does this film on its own.

There is no other character development unless you call 30second appearances character development.

Unlike The Enemy Below, where Mitchum plays cat and mouse with the German U-Boat captain, Hanks runs the film and the action, telling his crew, 'Hard to port', or sending messages to the other ships.

Even the love interest is only there so the film can kick off somehow. And finally, even the story was lazy. I don't mind much of a story if there is mood or atmosphere but without characters this also fell flat.

The CGI was okay, and as I mentioned everything could've been CGI including the crew and love interest. You only needed Hanks. He saved the film.

The Wolf's Call is a much better film (Le chant du loup), I'm not going to say its 10/10 but if you want more characters and a story, then take a look.

Shame, the trailers looked ok. Hopefully will come out on dvd, certainly will not be getting apple tv for it after your review. Will look up wolfs call.
