Any chance that we might get a book on either in 2015? It would help to fill the gaps on osprey's renaissance coverage...

It's been years that I wait for a book on the French Gendarme..... |

This era is seriously undercovered and both of these would be popular and useful titles. 2015 is optimistic, if Osprey commissioned both today it would be three years before we saw them in print. |

I just hope that they have commissioned the book in last two years and not at David Niccole, that seems to work as "gap-filler" writer for Late Medieval- Renaissance period. |

To be clear, Nicolle has wrote some great titles for Osprey but sometimes seems to work on neglected topics no one wants, as the Medieval Polish Armies, and the results are quite low. |

I know people have been asking for those (and also for more renaissance titles), and when I saw at the osprey blog mentions that the 2015 MAA and Warrior lists would be filled with interesting titles from many periods, I got my hopes up and tought that more renaissance books might be coming. |

I would definitely buy copies of books covering both those topics. |

German Reiter versus French Gendarme would make a splendid title for the new Combat series! Such a title would be in big demand (as would any book focusing on heavy cavalry/cuirassiers. Also I for one enjoyed Nicolle's book on Medieval Polish Armies! |

baldrick: I support your request for the Combat title, an excellent idea! |

Thanks scratchbuilder! Now, if only we could get Osprey to put it to the vote. Better yet, perhaps they'll realise that we renaissance warfare followers deserve a new title, and go ahead with it anyway (what chance do we have against World War 1 & 2 followers). I always thought that they should suggest the five titles, but allow more than one vote - with the criteria being that you vote on any books you would be prepared to buy. That way, they would know that sometimes several selections may be viable! Just a thought. |

baldrick: I suspect that the book vote isn't just a simple first past the post system. If, for instance, the first three books in a particular list scored 29%, 26% and 23% between them, all three might have a very good chance of meeting the publishing criteria. |

I rather like Baldrick's idea about a Combat:Reiter versus Gendarme book! |
