Hi. I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in any books re the first world war being included in the combat aircraft serries? At present there are none. Where as the fighters of this era are well served in aircraft of the aces, air vanguard and even aviation elite serries there is nothing at all re the bombers. There is even a new vanguard on the zeppelins. Probably the most obvious tile would be on the various gotha bombers? Or would more general titles like allied bombers and bombers of the central powers be able to cover it in 2 books? Although over 100 years old I think this is a gap in the serries osprey could fill. Anybody have any thoughts?

Hi Paul,

I think that introducing WWI types into Combat Aircraft is a great idea and one I'd like to see Osprey pursue. As you say, WWI fighters have been pretty well served by Aircraft of the Aces but other, larger, principally bomber types have been over looked. With the sad demise of Air Vanguard the only logical place to look at these types would be Combat Aircraft. This idea has clearly already been bounced around at Osprey towers as back in February Airco DH4 Units of World War I was one of the preposed Combat Aircraft titles in the book vote (it came 4th with 15.3% of the vote). I'd certainly steer clear of the wider "Allied bombers" type titles that you mention and concentrate on specific types. There is more than enough info out there to support this approach on the key "heavy" types of the conflict. Personally i'd like to see titles such as Gotha Bomber and Zeppelin Strakken Units, RFC/RAF Home Defence Units 1914-18, Handley-Page O Series Units and the afor mentioned DH4 and DH9 covered.

Hi Adam C thanks for the support. I think your suggestions are very good. The only reason I put up alled bombers was that something would be better than nothing. Outside of osprey I think the first world  war bombers always play second fiddle to the fighters. So it's an area osprey could exploit.
