Are you sure he isn't the son of a Civil War veteran? That would make him old, but old within realistic limits.

A union civil war vet named xxx..., means to me that guy would be about 163 years old! In order to be a vet, lets say, for arguments sake, he was born 1850 and 15 years old by the end of the civil war! . The oldest known person was mrs calmet from france, getting 122 years old... . Forget it....
