Has anyone at Osprey or any member of the general public who reads Osprey Books, interested in or thought about a book (or 2) regarding Axis Special Forces in North Africa

Like their British Counterparts (Long Range Desert Group and slightly later, the SAS) the Italians and Germans utilised Long Range forces.

The Italians had Auto-Saharan Companies (Compagnie Auto-Avio-Sahariane) were Italian military units specialised in long range patrols of the North African Desert.  Whilst the Germans had units such as Sonderverband 288 commandos and Sonderkommando Blaich

Hi there SimonMc,

I think thats a really interesting book proposal!!! What series would you be wanting to see it in? Personally I go for ELITE. That way it could cover not just uniforms and personal equipment but also vehicles, organisation and tactics.

Would it sell? Thats the million dollar question I suppose but I think it would stand a very good chance of being popular as it ticks many of the Osprey best seller boxes - World War II, Axis and Special Forces.

All in all a good shout! It gets my support!

Hi Adam

Im no expert, but like yourself, Id place it in the elite series

To be honest Ive no idea if it would sell, personally I think it would as its a niche topic that very few if no-one on Civy street know about

So Im not sure...is there anyone from @Osprey who could post a comment or thought etc?

Hi SimonMc and AdamC,

Thanks for putting up this book suggestion. I have passed this onto our editorial team and I'll let you know what their response is.

Hi all,

We have already an existing title that covers this topic in our Battle Orders series:

BTO 23: Desert Raiders: Axis and Allied Special Forces 1940–43

Half of this book covers Axis Special Forces so I hope there is enough for you there to sate your desire for information. If you'll forgive a little tease, I am told by the editor behind the New Vanguard series that there is a title in the pipeline for next year that will cover the Italian side of this topic.

Thanks for the info James@Osprey....much appreciated

I look forward to reading the book as and when its published :)

It would be good if a book of sorts and/or the book in the pipeline mentioned and illustrated the story of Almasy
