Late last week we held a book launch in the fantastic Medal Room at the Honourable Artillery Company HAC to celebrate the publication of the Para Fitness Guide - which in the US and Canada is known as Go the Distance. The event was really well attended, with loads of ex (and current) Paras, a smattering of top brass, some representatives from the two charities that the book is supporting, the model Peta Todd, a camera crew from BFBS and some reporters from national papers.

Of course, the event was great fun, but more importantly it was a great opportunity for two fabulous charities to get some much deserved publicity. The author of the book, Sam McGrath (the youngest British major since WW2) is donating all of the royalties from the book to these two charities - Fairbridge and the Para Afghanistan Trust.

Fairbridge works with young people aged 13-25 that other organisations find difficult to engage - giving them the motivation, self confidence and skills that they need to change their lives. You can find out more about Fairbridge from their website.

The Para Afghanistan Trust was formed on the 15th March 2007 to help support soliders and their families who served with The Parachute Regiment in Afghanistan and who have been wounded or killed as a consequence. You can find out more about the trust on their website.

Matt Timbers, the photographer who took the majority of the photos in the book was also at the event - and took some fabulous photos, which he has given us kind permission to display on our blog.
