Dux

Kicking off the series is a pair of titles from familiar names within the industry. Dux Bellorum – Arthurian Wargames Rules AD 367–793 by Dan Mersey is the first of these two volumes. Evolving from his earlier Glutter of Ravens rules, Dux Bellorum is an element-based system wherein each base of figures represents 50 fighting men, and which allows players to build a warband of Late Roman, Romano-British, Welsh, Saxon, Pictish, Irish, or Sea Raider warriors.

Also available in August is A World Aflame – Interwar Wargame Rules 1918–39 by Paul Eaglestone of Empress Miniatures. These fast-paced 28mm rules cover the diverse conflicts of the period, from the Chinese Civil Wars and the “Great GaFlamesme” in Central Asia, to the Irish War of Independence and the bitter ideological warfare of the Russian and Spanish Civil Wars. The rules also contain options for the “Very British Civil War” – a gaming trend which has sprung up in recent years, following a “what-if” scenario that has Edward VIII refusing to abdicate the throne, thrusting the country into civil war in 1938.

Available for £11.99/$17.95, Osprey Wargames is looking to bring to the table the best self-contained, affordable, and fun wargames rules possible.
