It is with great sadness that Richard Todd best known for his roles in The Longest Day and The Dambusters has died at the age of 90. I have to admit The Longest Day is one of my favourite war films of all time and Richard Todd\'s role as Major John Howard was well performed.

Other than starring as an actor Richard served in the 6th Airborne Division during World War two and took part in the D-Day landings. He was one of the first to parachute into France on June 6, 1944 and his battalion was one of the units that completed the main assault on Pegasus Bridge, however, the unit took heavy casualties and by dawn next day mustered only 243 out of its original strength of 610.

Richard will be sorely missed.
