Sunday Photo - Operation Chastise

In Military History, Featured

On the evening of May 16, 1943 a group of Lancaster bombers set off from RAF Scampton. Their target was a selection of German dams that had been identified by the British Air Ministry as high priority targets. By the evening of May 17 two dams had been destroyed and one lightly damaged, with the exploits of the brave pilots recreated on radio, film and the printed page in the following years.

This photo shows the Möhne dam on the day following the attacks.
