On this day, just under a hundred years ago in 1914, Britain declared war on Germany, following the refusal to remove troops from neutral Belgium.

In this week's image from May 1914, Belgian soldiers march through the Menin Gate, which would become an infamous symbol of the war to come.

Wonder how many of them were still alive in 1918 for the Victory parade?
