In Military History, Featured

We wanted to try something new for the centenary commemorations of the battle of the Somme, and so we reached out to the talented team at Epic History TV with the idea of a special video examining the first day of the conflict. Using Osprey books as a point of reference, they put together this incredible 15 minute video looking at the successes and failures of all British, French, German and Commonwealth forces on 1 July, 1916.

I visited the Somme in May 2015. So glad I got a chance to visit this hallowed ground.
Speaking of films, I find it strange that the film of the Battle of the Somme was actually released before the battle was over. Lyn Macdonald describes soldiers behind the lines watching the film, with the sounds of battle in the distance.
