Osprey Adventures: The Big Reveal

It is a bit tougher to make sales than it was a few years back but most series continue to perform well and go on. Over the years I've been doing this we've made a few mistakes - launching five new series in one year springs to mind - but hopefully we learn from them. We are trying new stuff but if it doesn't work we are not pursuing it blindly. We have plenty of work to do with Campaign, New Vanguard, Men-at-Arms etc and plenty of opportunities to write military history. Other new series are working better, Combat being the best example. Finally I have to say that no one is more annoyed and upset than us when something doesn't work. A lot of thought, time, expense and arguing goes into a new series and we are all invested in them, sometimes to an unhealthy extent.

That's really disappointing news. I was a big fan of Myths & Legends and have a full set (see - I did my bit! Lol!). I have to echo Painty's concerns about the number of series that have died out or been "rested" in recent years. With the death of Myths & Legends, Command, Air Vanguard, Battle Orders and Aviation Elite units coupled with Fortress and Raid teetering on the brink it seems to be a worry trend. Ok, in the interests of fairness I should point out that Duel and Weapon don't appear to be suffering from the same malady (its a bit early to tell with Combat) but it really does concern me. Has Osprey fallen foul of trying to expand too far too soon??? I really hope not!!!

Pete@Osprey: If there are no new titles, how can sales make a turn-around?

It is very worrying to see the number of new series that appear, run for 30 - 40 titles and then are just allowed to fade out.

With regards to Myths and Legends. While this series has been very well-reviewed, and those who purchased the books seem to really enjoy them, the sales of the series in general have not been strong enough to justify continuing to produce new titles. Obviously, we will continue to monitor this situation, and if we see a turn-around in sales, we will, of course, look to bring the series back.

I agree what has happened to the excellent Myths &Legends series? Plenty more tales to tell.
