If you are in the UK and looking for something to do this weekend then perhaps some of these suggestions could help. We've had a look at what is going on over the Bank Holiday weekend and chosen some of our favourites.

Royal Armouries – Leeds

The Royal Armouries in Leeds are marking the 400th anniversary of the death of Tokugawa Ieyashu. Opening at 10:00am on Saturday 30 April, the themed weekend will feature a diverse programme reflecting the culture and history of Japan including talks, demonstrations and an exciting horseback archery show.

The Tank Museum - Bovington

The only running Tiger 1 Tank in the world will be rolling out for one day this weekend. Saturday 30th April is Tiger Day for the Bovington Tank Museum. Don’t worry too much if you miss out – the Tank will be making another appearance at Tankfest on 25th and 26th of June.

Imperial War Museum – London

Anyone finding themselves in London over the Bank Holiday may want to check out the Imperial War Museum, with a range of exhibits that bring the history of warfare in the 20th and 21st century to life.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy - Portsmouth

Sitting alongside HMS Victory in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is HMS M.33, the sole remaining British veteran of the bloody Gallipoli Campaign. She is open to the public, complete with a stunning immersive battle experience, the stories of the men who served on board, and the history of the Gallipoli Campaign.

Royal Armouries – Fort Nelson

On Sunday 1st May you can experience live black-powder firings of an historic artillery piece – a 32-pounder smooth-bore breach loader to be precise. It will be fired at three times throughout the day, with the volunteers undertaking authentic gun drills and answering questions about the guns and their history.

The RAF Museum – London

Ever wanted to sit in the cockpit of a Spitfire? Well, at the RAF Museum in London you can do just that! The Spitfire Experience is running from 16th April to 26th June, so even if you can’t make it out there this weekend there are plenty more opportunities to get inside Britain’s iconic World War II fighter.

National Museum of Scotland – Edinburgh

If your weekend takes you to Edinburgh you might want to head to the National Museum of Scotland, where the complex story of the different groups that have been given the name ‘Celts’ is explored through the extraordinary art objects they made and used.

National War Museum - Edinburgh

Also in Edinburgh is the National War Museum, where an exhibit marking the first decade of operations for the Royal Regiment of Scotland has just opened. The exhibition offers a fresh perspective on the combat and peacekeeping work of Scotland's infantry soldiers and support network.

Oh, to be in England!
I was there last May and visited the IWM and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Just missed the M.33
