Osprey's Big Reveal 2016 - Men-at-Arms

In Military History, Featured

Our Big Reveal continues, this time with an old favourite – the Men-at-Arms series. It celebrated its 500th title this year, and in 2016 it is continuing to make steady progress towards the next milestone.

MAA 504: Armies of the War of the Pacific 1879–83 (January 2016)

MAA 505: Imperial Chinese Armies 1840-1911 (April 2016)

MAA 502: Byzantine Naval Forces 1261-1461 (May 2016)

MAA 506: Roman Army Units in the Western Provinces (1): 31 BC – AD 195 (June 2016)

MAA ???: Modern African Wars (5) (September 2016)

MAA ???: World War II Croatian Legionaries (November 2016)

MAA ???: French Foreign Legion 1831-71 (November 2016)

We probably don’t have to start planning for MAA 1000 quite yet, but there are plenty of interesting topics covered in this list that have got me excited. What do you all think?

Good list and very interesting titles but only 7 and 1 of those carried over from this year? Personally I'm hoping for the WW1 Portugese title!!!

Good here. And there is some signs that more good will come.
Already knew about the MAA 504 (and I hope more about America, that is not USA!).
Like the MAA 505 :-) , that fill a gap of 3,500 years military history. (Maybe a revised edition of “Soldiers of the Dragon” by CJ Peers?)
And the naval byzans (hoping for one before 1261).
And like a new in the MAW-serie about Biafran War, hope for more in this serie (unfortunately... there is more subjects...).
I guess MAA 506 will follow with more about the roman army.
The Croatian WW2, hope to more about the Axis-allies.
That about the French Foreign Legion also a gap for a classical unit that I had thinked to come.

Well there's nothing there for me personally but I have no objections to any of these titles all of which look like valuable additions to the series.

I actually had to look up "World War II Croatian Legionaries" to find out who they were, and its an interesting story. I will be adding that title to my buy list.

@ ASM, Painty - MAA Modern African Wars (5) is going to cover the Biafran War.
Paintybeard posted on 14 Aug 2015 10:20:22
Probably only the first 2 for me, but as ASM says, which African wars will the new book cover?

I’ve been impressed by the MAA titles in recent years covering wars in South America. So MAA 504 Armies of the War of the Pacific is near the top of my 2016 “To Buy List”. I would want to know who the authors are of the others because MAA title content can vary markedly depending upon the writer.

The new Modern African Wars will certainly be on my list! You got me started on this mini series when you released the free pdf-version of no 1. But what will it cover?
